Savings Grains is an early stage social business that helps smallholder farmers save their harvests, fulfil their potential, and make sure that no good food goes to waste. Founded in 2019, we believe that digital technologies, new business models and ambitious public - private partnerships can transform small-scale agriculture in Africa. From a base in Berlin, Germany, Saving Grains works in more than five countries spanning west, central and eastern Africa.
Our vision is for a world without loss, and where smallholders can move beyond subsistence: today, an astonishing 1/3 of the world’s food is either wasted or lost - some of it by the world’s 500 million smallholder farmers. Yet at the same time, more than 65% of smallholders are living below the poverty line, struggling to make ends meet. Saving Grains provides a variety of innovative, scalable solutions to tackle challenges related to post-harvest losses.
