Saving Grains

Social Business

We have some problems on this planet. Poverty and hunger among them. The crazy thing is, we also have some very good solutions.

  • Instead of losing a quarter of your grain to insects you stick it in an airtight bag.
  • If you need money for a solid business you take a loan.
  • Instead of poor villages selling at dumping prices during the harvest you keep the grain until prices go up.

But why isn’t that happening?

We’ve tried development. We’ve done fairtrade. We know nice brands that donate money. But are we winning against poverty?

Time to pivot:

Let’s make money by fighting poverty! Sounds new? Well, it isn’t. It is called social business. But this is not companies “giving back”. Or polishing reputations. If you take this seriously, a social business makes money only when it creates impact. And needs to create impact to make money. Now, why wouldn’t a successful social business change the world?

Welcome to Saving Grains.

Our Philosophy

We build for scale. And we believe that this requires a value chain solution. A product solving problems for a single function in the value chain cannot reach massive scale. Or if it does, the value is captured elsewhere.

Look at yields!

A massive increase in production through better inputs doesn’t benefit smallholders if they can only sell at production prices.

Take our aggregators!

Large volumes of quality grain in the lean season cannot be sold at local markets.

Or the food industry!

How do you get traceability from an informal and unstructured value chain?

A value chain solution for massive Scale

Our value chain solution brings farmers higher profits. Aggregators make big returns. Agents and traders can trade in the lean season. The industry gets the high quality and traceable grain it needs.

How does a Value Chain Solution Work?

Our value chain solution brings farmers higher profits. Aggregators make big returns. Agents and traders can trade in the lean season. The industry gets the high quality and traceable grain it needs. All this is scalable through technology including  hermetic storage, proprietary quality management technology, a digital platform and a  traceability solution.

How does this work?
